Caps & Rotors
The Distributor Cap and Rotor is responsible for transferring voltage from the ignition coils to the engine’s cylinders, thus igniting the fuel-air mixture within the cylinders. The coil is connected to the rotor and the rotor spins inside the distributor cap. As the rotor’s tip makes contact on the cylinder, a high voltage pulse passes from the coil to the cylinder, then it moves on to the spark plug wire, igniting the spark plug.
Symptoms of a bad Cap & Rotor may include:
- Engine misfire, stall, or loss of power
- No start conditions
- Unusual or excessive engine noise, primarily a squealing sound
